Considerate Couponing

September 29, 2011

The Coupon Information Center (CIC) is pleased to announce the publication of its new consumer guidelines entitled “Considerate Couponing.” The guidelines provide straightforward information from the industry’s foremost experts about some of the most controversial practices associated with coupons, as discussed on the “blogosphere” and in the media.

Bud Miller, Certified Protection Professional (CPP) and CIC’s Executive Director, stated: “I am pleased that CIC can address these issues and provide expertise and answers from the source of coupons—the manufacturers who are responsible for the design, creation, distribution and payment of coupons. Our members include the best and most proactive coupon issuers: Altria Client Services Group; American Rice; Beiersdorf, Inc.; Coca-Cola USA; Colgate-Palmolive Company; Del Monte; Energizer Battery Company; General Mills, Inc.; Hanesbrands, Inc.; Hasbro; Hormel Foods Corporation; JM Smucker Company; Johnson & Johnson; Kellogg Company; Kimbercly-Clark Company; Kraft Foods, Inc.; Land O’Lakes; Lorillard Tobacco Company; McCormick & Company, Inc.; Mead-Johnson; Nestle USA, Inc.; PepsiCo Beverages & Foods; Pfizer; Post Foods, LLC; Procter & Gamble; Reckitt Benckiser; Reynolds Consumer Products; R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company; S.C. Johnson & Son, Inc.; and Unilever.”

Miller further noted, ”CIC receives numerous questions from retailers, consumers and even academics on a daily basis and have found that many of them have been misinformed about the basics of couponing, including some fundamental issues such as coupon decoding and the unauthorized sale of coupons.

The new guidelines also address controversial coupon related activities such as shelf clearing and dumpster diving. CIC invites consumers to read the new guidelines via this link.

Formed in 1985, the CIC is a not for profit organization of manufacturers created to enhance the integrity of the coupon industry.
